About the Teacher



Mr. Button will begin as instrumental music teacher for grades 7 - 12 starting in the fall of 2018.  Mr. Button attended the Crane School of Music and later transferred to and is a graduate of the Ithaca College School of Music. He studied trombone with Richard Cryder at Crane and Dr. Robert Reifsnyder at Ithaca College. Mr. Button began an instrumental music program at the South African Colleges School (SACS) primary school in Cape Town, South African in his first year of teaching after Ithaca College. Upon returning to the states a year later, he taught instrumental music grades 4 - 12 for one year at the northern end of the Catskills in Stamford, New York and for five years in nearby Oneonta where he delivered music instruction in a variety of settings including elementary and junior high school band and general music. While living and teaching in Oneonta, Mr. Button completed a masters degree in music education at the Crane School of Music during the summers.  Since the fall of 1995, Mr. Button has been teaching instrumental and general music in Canastota.

In addition to teaching music, Mr. Button also enjoys playing trombone professionally and for fun throughout the region.
